I am so tired of waiting,
For the world to become good
And beautiful and kind?
Let us take a knife
And cut the world in two,
And see what worms are eating
At the rind.
– Langston Hughes
I am so tired of waiting for men with power, whether Hollywood moguls or sitting presidents or gang members or militia raiders, to stop abusing women. Aren’t you?
I am so tired of waiting for men with power to listen to the people on the ground who understand the situation better than they do.
And I am so tired of waiting for people to learn that it takes less energy to take care of one another, than not, and that compromise is not a dirty word. Aren’t you?
When I feel like that, I go into my cave, and close my eyes, and rest.
But after I rest, I rise again.
Because, in the words of dearly departed Tom Petty, I won’t back down.
I’m still trying to help make the world become good and beautiful and kind.
